The enterprise-grade alternative to consumer messaging

Wire reports use by governments, critical national infrastructure operators and more than 1,800 organizations worldwide. It is open source and auditable, and it is built on MLS, the messaging security standard.
“Our staff will not move off what they use now.”
Some will not, if you ask them to move everything at once. The migrations that work start with the groups carrying the most sensitive traffic, give people a reason that makes sense personally (a departing colleague can no longer read the group), and set a date after which the old channel is not used for that class of conversation. We will help you plan that, and we will say if we think it will not hold.
The version of secure messaging your organization can actually administer
Wire gives you encrypted messaging, voice, video and file sharing with stronger administrative control than consumer messaging apps such as Signal, and with public cloud, private cloud, hybrid or on-premises deployment for teams that need control over data, hosting and user governance.
The problem this actually solves
Your staff are already using WhatsApp for work. Not because they are careless, but because it is instant, it is on the phone in their hand, and a partner or contractor can be added in seconds. When the approved tool is slower than that, people route around it. Policy does not fix this; a tool people prefer does.
For an organisation answerable to a donor, a regulator or a headquarters, that is an exposure with no record attached. Wire is built to close it without asking anyone to work more slowly: the same speed and the same phone-first feel, with central administration, single sign-on, and the conversation inside infrastructure you control.
Working with people outside your organisation
This is where consumer apps win and most enterprise tools lose. A guest can join a Wire conversation from a link, in a browser, without an account. When they close it, their access to the history goes with them. For a field operation coordinating with a contractor for three weeks, that is the right shape.
Where it has been proven
Wire is approved by the German federal information security office for classified work at the VS-NfD level, and it runs at scale inside large commercial groups. It uses the MLS encryption standard, which is designed to hold up in large groups rather than only in one-to-one chats. Deployment can be sovereign cloud, private cloud or on-premises, which is the question every UN agency and government department in this region asks first.
Control you can evidence
Central administration of users, groups, devices and external participants. Offboarding removes access immediately and provably, which is the failure every security review finds first.
A choice of where the data sits
Public cloud, private cloud in a jurisdiction you specify, hybrid, or fully on-premises on infrastructure you control. For organizations subject to data localisation or their own sovereignty policies, this is usually the whole decision.
Federation for multi-organization work
Separate deployments interconnect, so partners coordinate without any one organization becoming custodian of everybody else's communications. It maps onto humanitarian and joint operations far better than a single shared platform.
It has to be good to use
A secure platform staff avoid is not secure. Wire carries group messaging, calling and conferencing, file sharing and screen sharing, on desktop and mobile, because feature parity with what people already use is the condition on which the governance benefit depends.
